Dr. Ramona uses this modality frequently in her practice with great results. It is an excellent option on its own or in conjunction with Acupuncture or Bowen therapy. Cupping involves the suctioning of air and the muscle body slightly into the cup.
The patient relaxes on the table, and cupping helps with tight muscles, aches and pains, and headaches. It is great for tight traps, gluts, IT bands, and calf muscles. It increases circulation of blood and Qi to the muscles, and also releases toxins from those areas.
The cups are either left in place, or are moved up and down the length of the muscle gently to relax it further. It is a very relaxing treatment for the patient, and afterwards most patients report less pain and stiffness and increased mobility.
