Endometriosis is a condition I have treated often in the past 10 years in my NW Calgary Naturopathic Medicine practice. The women that I see with this condition can experience significant pain during and around the time of their menstrual cycle, and sometimes even during the entire month. Women can experience pelvic pain, as well as pain in the low back and in their legs. Other symptoms a woman can experience include painful intercourse, painful bowel movements or urination, fatigue, nausea, and so much more.
Naturopathic Medicine has a lot to offer to women that are suffering from Endometriosis. Read below to learn about the modalities I use most often in my patients suffering from this painful condition.
Endometriosis and Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a modality that I have experienced significant results with in my patients. It works very well to reduce levels of pain and intensity of cramps as well as heavy bleeding, fatigue, nausea and bloating. Depending on the patients health history, acupuncture sessions are generally weekly until symptoms are under control. At that time sessions are performed monthly as maintenance. You can read more about acupuncture here.
Vitamins and Supplements
Nutrient deficiencies can definitely contribute to this painful condition and based on the patients health history, I can prescribe professional grade supplements to help with hormone balancing and pain management. In addition, we always want to support the health on the liver and the digestive system which plays a significant role in hormone metabolism. You can read more about professional grade Vitamins and Supplements here.
This modality is often successful in treating menstrual pain associated with Endometriosis as well as back pain that may accompany this condition. Treatments are generally weekly for 3 visits, at which point we reassess my patients progress. Eventually sessions are booked monthly as maintenance, generally prior to the time of menstruation to maximize the treatments effect. You can read more about Bowen here.
Herbs are also a powerful modality in treating this condition. We can use herbs to minimize cramping pain, as well as support the liver and digestive system in it’s metabolism of hormones. We can also use herbs as anti-inflammatories, as well as to soothe the nervous system when the patient is experiencing pain. You can read more about Botanical Medicine here.
Diet and Nutrition is a very important aspect of the treatment protocol in patients suffering from Endometriosis. We always want to look at inflammatory foods in the patients diet, as well as ensuring the patient has adequate fiber and anti-inflammatory foods. You can read more about Nutrition here.
As you can see, Naturopathic Medicine has a lot to offer for women suffering from Endometriosis. There is no need to endure this painful condition. Don’t hesitate to give me a call at my NW Calgary Naturopathic Medicine practice at (403) 719-2594 to see what treatment options might be good for you.
